Summary of our work so far - (Narrative)
So far we have discussed our narratvie structure in detail...
Media Practical Production
Narrative structure:
1) Opening montage sequence –
(Fast paced, loud) Slash dot com soundtrack combined with clips of a computer screen with websites and a keyboard. Will have some shots with a blank screen but with words that correspond to the title e.g. ‘dot’. The fast pace of the music used will correspond with the fast editing used creating an energetic , ‘MTV style’ effect automatically appealing to the target audience.
2) Paedophile scene (Construction)-
Set in Ealing, because it’s a scene familiar to our target audience. Also the enclosed square centre provides a chrostophobic feel adding to the sense of paranoia which we aim to create (in a similar way to ‘My super sweet 16’)
3) Expert
We will be conducting an interview with an expert in this issue (e.g. a councillor or an official person from a charity related to this issue). We will be using an expert in order to provide evidence and support to both our primary and secondary audience. It will appeal to our secondary audience, as the evidence provided will make the documentary look more professional and therefore a believable source of information. Whilst the interview is taking place, various tips that the expert provides will be shown alongside him/her in a typing effect linking to the theme of our production (internet, computers). This will appeal to our primary target audience by providing interaction and visualisation allowing the message to have a greater impact and maintain interest.
4) Victim (hand scene)
We will have a scene where a victim of this issue will re-tell her story. We have chosen to use a female in order to directly appeal to our target audience. Due to ethical issues, we will be conducting the interview in a dark/shadowy room where the victim’s identity will be concealed and only her fidgeting hands will be shown. The fidgeting hands will help to reinforce our message by highlighting the victim’s distress. By doing this we will also be applying to typical documentary conventions.
5) Positive points - safety – entertainment, and keeping in touch family, friends
We will be including positive points in our production in order to deter from excluding our primary target audience. We will show how these sites are beneficial in terms of entertainment and keeping in touch with family and friends.
6) Refuse to comment.
- We will be including a comment from a site like hi5 or my space. We will have a voiceover reading out the comment which will be shown on screen in a typing effect in the same pace as it is being spoken. We have chosen to use this as it is a typical documentary convention and will add a look of professionalism to the doc.
